I have this computer and there’s no way around this built-in microphone. Use a USB microphone headset. This is what I do and works well.
I tested the default port for the microphone and is as poor as other reviewers have said. I recorded my voice with him and the sound is blurred and distorted. I can read but the quality is acceptable and crazy if you had used all the time. Shame on HP for it. That’s why I took a star from the control should work correctly.
However the laptop is still for me the laptop 5 stars in any other way. And I discovered that when using a Logitech USB headset (which costs about $ 35.00) to record my voice the sound quality is excellent. I’m using USB microphones education aloud recognition feature in Windows 7 The results were excellent.
Do not use VoIP or video conferencing and people who complain built-in microphone but you can use these functions with a microphone USB I see no reason why it does not work. Perhaps someone with these characteristics you can try and report here.
I paid $ 425.00 for the laptop at Staples about a month ago. With the coupon I saw recently at a cost of only $ 400. At this price it is a good solution if everything continues to function properly. So far I am happy with him.
If your only concern is the microphone but he could live with a USB microphone (which I read tend to give better results as a whole) then you might want to consider this model.

There is a fix for the mic problem!
I too was very frustrated when I purchased this laptop and discovered an issue with the mic. However, HP has put out a downloadable software driver and I installed it and it works fine now!!! My wife uses skype and messanger. As for the rest of the laptop….we are very happy with it. The webcam has fantastic clarity even in not so good lighting. So, ignore the previous gripes with the internal mic. You may purchase the laptop with the defective driver but you can download the new one in two minutes.

This laptop is an AWESOME deal for the money. After my desktop crashed due to mulitple viruses, I needed something to replace it in a hurry. Not having tons of spare funds laying around, I needed to find something quick but with quality and reasonably priced….this laptop fits the bill! Although I purchased mine from Staples because it was on sale this week, I would recommend shopping through Amazon any time. As for the laptop, he is sleek, has a number keypad, set up was a breeze, basically you plug it in and it did everything else for you. I did purchase the logitech MK300 wireless keyboard and mouse just because I will never get used to typing extensive documents on a laptop keyboard, (I’m a little old school). But even getting the laptop to recognize the accessories such as wireless keyboard, mouse, printer and magic jack was as I said plug it in and they were all ready to go! It comes with the Norton 360 60 day trial, but PLEASE if you get no other accessories….puchase Norton 360 anti-virus for when your trial is expired.
The only con I can see about the laptop is that the color resolution on the screen is not as bright and vivid as some of the other laptops I viewed in the store during the purchase, but they all carried a price ticket of $900 or more so….. if you are on a budget and looking for a great laptop that is high quality and reasonably priced, I really don’t think you would be sorry by purchasing this one. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who wants to spend approximately $500.

FOR ON BOARD VIDEO:
To find out the type of Video Card Driver you have simply open everesthome220.
Click the plus next to Display at the left of the screen.
Click on PCI/AGP Video and your driver type will be listed in the large box to the right under Video Adapter.
FOR PCI VIDEO:
If your Video Card is a PCI Card then click on PCI Devices.
Your hardware will be listed under device description at the upper left.
FINDING YOUR DRIVER:
I always recomend getting any drivers from the support site the manufacture offers. Sadley enough, this cannot always be done!

I have an old Packard Bell Easy One laptop and also a HP Compaq nx90290. I need to buy a printer, will any printer be compatible or do I need to look for a certain brand? spec etc??

Any printer that you decide to buy and use will work with your laptop, just make sure that you have the necessary installation software ready to install so that your laptop will recognise that you have a printer connected to your laptop, simply connect the printer to the printer port and put the software disk in to the CD-ROM tray and wait for the on screen instructions to tell you to turn the printer on so the laptop can configure the printer to the laptop, you will have to be connected to the Internet so you can register it to complete the installation, just be careful about the brand Lexmark, they don’t have a good reputation, any other brand will be fine, one last thing make sure the software is compatible with your laptop, for example if you are running XP then the software has to be XP as well. good luck
