The Lexmark S605 high-gloss control panel has merely a single button, for you to power the entire unit on. Everything else is handled from the touchscreen display or alternatively one of a number of set, lit touch buttons organised close to it. The primary part of the touchscreen display features rather an iPhone feel to it, approximately the same dimensions and also with a collection of icons you can easily flick between and tap to trigger.
The touchscreen is capacitive, and therefore reacts well to touches, however the angle of the display can sometimes mean you strike the button above the one you’re after, till you get accustomed to it. The touch controls include exactly the same kind of functionality as real ones, which means you have displays dedicated to scanning, printing and printing through memory cards, and the like.
Other from the touchscreen display, facilities on the S605 are fairly similar to those in systems further down the range. This isn’t a Pro range of machines, and so it lacks the ADF on the top of the scanner, even though it does feature a business-like textured top, instead of an annoying high-gloss finish. A solitary memory card slot takes SD, Memory Stick as well as xD cards plus there is a USB port that handles both PictBridge and USB drives.
Lexmark’s new Vizix print system is evident on the Interact S605, with its four, individual ink cartridges and semi-permanent head. It was very easy to set up, although cartridge installation would gain from a more certain click the moment each one is pushed in to place.
Lexmark has made good use of the S605′s touchscreen display to bring in what it refers to as SmartSolutions. These are printing-based applets which may be downloaded and saved in the printer itself and therefore supply additional functionality, aside from just what is presently installed on the equipment.
Lexmark boasts 18ppm for black print along with 11ppm for colour in standard print mode, using ISO testing protocols. Our own tests, which include processing time, aren’t quite as optimistic. Our five-page black text print finished in 52 seconds, and this is equal to 5.77ppm, but this rose to 6.90ppm on the 20-page test.
Duplex print, provided as the norm on the Interact S605, is reasonable, since pages don’t wait as long for ink drying in between sides as on, particularly, canon machines. The 20-side document, similar to the twenty-page simplex test, however , printed on both sides of the paper, delivered a rate of 3.68 sides per minute.
Colour print got a speed of 3.33ppm, so we are getting back to the amount of speed exaggeration which were prevalent a year ago. Although that is not to say that the Interact S605 is not fast; in reality, the machine shows a very good rate of speed when compared with other inkjet all-in-ones within a similar price range.
15 x 10cm photo prints ranged from 43 seconds to 1:07, depending on source and, utilizing lexmark’s newest perfectfinish paper, created photographs that were very effectively balanced, with great true colours as well as high amounts of fine detail in various lighting levels. Output is a lot nearer to the quality attained by Canon and HP than was the situation with Lexmark’s older printing technique.
The Interact has exactly the same CIS scanner as the Interpret and Prevail Pro models, and produces much the same plain paper copies. Colours were impressively near to the originals and, elsewhere, text print quality is good, though still not quite as clean as from the very best supplied by some of its rivals.
Same as with the rest of the range, the LexmarkS605 ink cartridges are also available in different formast, with 100XL cartridges in return program mode being the most economical.
This is a very good, well featured all-in-one printer, whose touchscreen control provides a lot of potential. When the SmartSolutions collection grows, it may turn out to be a valuable extension to the features offered on this and other Lexmark printers supporting it. This gives the S605 real advantages, even if the remaining of the unit provides much the same functions and functionality to other all-in-one’s in the range.

Has anyone else experienced Lexmark Interact S605 poor quality?
The PowerSave feature is rather a disadvantage. According to poor Lexmark technical assistance service, it cannot be disconnected. This causes the printer to shut down every 10 minutes. In order to restart it, one has to find and press a button again. This causes not only the delay of doing so, but also a delay as the printer goes thru rebooting again.
Besides being ineffectual, the technical assistance servie is curt to the point of being rude. Beyond that, they were even unable to help with printer malfunction connecting with MS spooler service.
My printer was still under warranty when I called them, which makes their inability to help and their rudeness even more inexplicable.
I would NOT buy a Lexmark printer again.
Power saver mode let’s you save power usage and it’s also good for the environment. Though you’re not able to disable the feature, you can set it to activate after 240 minutes at most. Go to Setup > Device Setup > Power Saver > then, choose your preferred setting.
You don’t need to manually turn it on, it should automatically wake up when it senses a transmission signal from computer, i.e. print job, scan or copy. If printer is having problem waking up after power saver mode, a firmware update corrects this issue. Lexmark S605 firmware update is available at http://bit.ly/S605FW.

Lexmark #100 ink refill?
I’ve bought a refill kit for my Lexmark S605 interact printer, I’ve refilled the black ink and replaced it back in the printer. The printer still says that I’m out of black ink although its got 10ml of black ink in it. Does anyone know how I can resolve this?

Once an ink cartridge as run out it tells the printer that it’s out of ink. Even if you refill it ii still tells the printer its out of ink as it reads the same chip details.
It’s a bit like a SIM card in a phone. As you make calls the credit goes down and tells your phone. No credit no phone calls can be made. Until you top it up it wont work. Cartridge chips are the same.
The chip is dead and refilling does not reactivate it. No matter how many times you put it back in it will still read empty.
Some Lexmarks will work with refills but tell you that the ink is low repeatedly but a lot of the newer Lexmarks will not let you even print unless the printer has a chips that tells it it’s genuine Lexmark ink in the cartridge.
You need to search for how to override the printer or it will not work.
