Metal Oxide Varistor MOV has blown inside PCB?
I’m trying to fix this PCB that has a MOV metal oxide varistor blown. It blew after a power outage. Unfortunatley I’m unable to get any info from the blown MOV it shattered & burnt to a crisp LOL. Will any MOV work as a replacement? The PCB is from a motor controller for a treadmill connected to regular home 120V current
Any MOV designed for 120 VAC use should work just fine. Check that is approx. of the same size of the one which blown (same energy rating).
The MOV is a protection device, then, if you remove it from the PCB your treadmill should work without problem, of course, it is not going to have the protection of the MOV (protection against high voltage spikes).
You also have to check all the fuses in your machine, someone must be gone also. If you do not have any fuse you have to have some kind of “breaker” which you have to reset.

HDD Data Recovery SAMSUNG HM320JI?
I have a Samsung SATA HM320JI 320GB disk which died on me. It happened by itself without any physical or electrical disturbance. As the drive isn’t recognized on device manager, no physical device shows up on disk manager (hardware error). Each time I attach it (external usb box,sata cable to motherboard; on different computers) I hear the drive platter spin up, a few head movement (no loud or repeating click) and platters spin down slowly. I bought an exact same HDD and swapped the controller PCB on the bottom but the results didn’t change.
I have sensitive data on the drive. Any data recovery suggestions which doesn’t cost thousands of dollars ?
A 3.5″ Sata disk died on you? Are you sure it doesnt have a built in locking system like many new drives?
Maybe the problem is the laser… thats messy.
If the info is worth a few hundred, spend a few hundred to get it out, it doesn’t always cost an arm and a leg, just hunt around.
