Betta Fish – Plants?
I’m having a hard time deciding what plants to get for my betta fish. I want live plants, but I was unsuccessful with a “white ribbon” plant. I need a plant that is compatible with my betta and easy to care for. I have a 10 gal tank with a small filter and minimum substrate. Any ideas?
I’m in the process of setting up a planted betta sorority, and I used java fern, hornwort and moneywort. The combination is pretty (each has a different sort of leaf), they’re low-light (good for bettas), low maintenance, and may or may not need substrate (of course it never hurts, but it won’t kill your plants to have little or none). That’s not to mention that they’re really affordable. I only paid about $30 for a tankful. Of course, choose a look that you like, but you can also check with your seller to find a compatible combo. Ask about lighting, because the fluorescent lights that come with most aquariums aren’t great for plants. Lights like Nutra Grow are much better–more expensive, but better.
You should also invest in liquid plant food and/or a CO2 setup for maximum growth and health. Plant food is pretty inexpensive, but CO2 injection setups can be pricey to buy.
