When i say compatible, i mean cartridges that arent the official stupidly expensive epson ones 
If they are chipped ones then they should work.

I know what compatibles are. And if they are chipped like the OEM (original equipment manufacture ones (Epsons)) then they should work.
Good student printer?
I am looking to buy a printer from either Epson or HP. PC world have some good offers on and I can only afford up to £50 so so far it is between EPSON Stylus SX115 Printer,
HP Deskjet F2480 and HP Deskjet F4580 Printer.
I understand that HP inks are expensive to replace but you only have two cartridges. With Epson, the colours are separate and there are compatible inks.
I am not sure which on to buy as I like the look of the last printer which is wireless (but wires are not too much of a problem). But will the cost be worth it in the end?
if you are doing coursework that will need a lot of printing, i suggest you go with a laser printer, it will save you a lot of money in the long run.
any printer you buy, remember, the ink will probably cost slightly more then the printer, and the ink already in it is only a small amount, so you will soon be buying ink for it.
With most printers you can always get none branded or compatable ink that is much cheaper.
I would go with the Epson Stylus, ink is much cheaper, and it really is better to have seperate cartradges for each ink. as printers, even when printing black, (maybe it’s just a HP thing, cos mine does it) it will use other ink aswell.
having said that, you shouldnt come accross this problem for a long time, but it might happen, it effects HP printers, not sure on other companies, but if one colour runs out, you cant even print in black, you cant even use the scanner if there is a scanner attatched.
