Canon PIXMA MP980 Printer Review
When you are already producing one of the best ranges of all-in-one printers, it may be difficult to think of options to improve. With the PIXMA MP980, Canon has made a decision to consider the inks, providing a different colour combination intended for consumers who wish to print monochrome together with colour photographs.
As in the past, there’s two paper sources for the printer, however Canon has limited the media regarding each. On this device, the 150-sheet paper cassette at the front happens to be the lone place you can put plain paper, whilst the back tray, which will take photo paper from 15 x 10cm up to A4, was created for photos.
Its A4 flatbed scanner includes a resolution of 4,800 x 9,600ppi and a traditional CCD scanner head, which provides superior results when compared to a less costly Contact Image Sensor would. There is a transparency adapter built into the lid, as well, so you can scan slides and also negatives.
Tugging down the front panel creates an output tray and an inside cover gives entry to a different slot for CD and also DVD printing – a carrier is provided. The Canon MP980 ink cartridges form an odd sequence with two black cartridges, the PGI-520BK intended for text and then the CLI-521BK for graphs and photos, they’re supplemented by the normal cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges. The inclusion though of a grey cartridge CLI-521GY is intended to enhance sepia pictures and greyscale and we must admit it really does appear to work.
This is certainly yet another superb machine from Canon, with the help of the additional facilities of improved black and white print as well as negative and transparency scanning. Media handling is somewhat less adaptable and the duplex prints are generally as slow as ever before, nevertheless, the versatility of wireless networking is definitely a compensation.
