How do I share my scanner wirelessly with another computer ?
I have a Brother MFC 885-CW (printer, scanner, fax, copier) which I would like other computers to use the scanner wirelessly instead of just using the computer that it’s hooked up to. I can print wirelessly from my laptop, but I’d like to access the scanner as well. The all-in-one printer is connected to an AT&T Gateway router, so what else do I need to do so I can have mutiple computers accessing the scanner?
The all-in-one printer is connected to a laptop running on Windows XP. My laptop is running on Vista. Does this have any signifance?
If it is a network printer as such, just set it’s IP address manually from the control panel. If you then run the installer on the individual machines it will set up connections for you. The scanner software should install at the same time as the printer, but check the manual, as you may need to open a port in the firewall exceptions to allow it to communicate. You will need Vista compatible software, if it is not on the cd, you can download it. Your question is a bit confusing, first you say it is connected to the router, then you say it is connected to a machine. If it is not a network printer you can not access it remotely.

AMD is cheaper but Intel is the best. Go for Intel. And you didn’t mention your needs. For most of the users dual core is enough. It will be a huge waste of money if your software can’t make use of extra 2 cores. And 6GB RAM! Wow! 3 to 4 GB are more than enough. Remember: If you have RAM above 3 GB you should only use Vista 64 bit. 32 bit is enough. And you need to update your driver to vista if the disk does not go with vista. (your printer’s) DDR2 (which you have already selected) is enough. Hard Drive is also more than enough.
